š§ Managing Your Mental Health In College
A recent Harvard Graduate School of Education study showed a critical aspect of college life: many of us are struggling with finding a sense of purpose, and it's taking a toll on our mental health. More than half of us feel a gap in meaning, leading to increased anxiety and depression. It's a wake-up call that we need to take our mental wellness into our own hands, beyond what's offered by campus counseling services.
So, what can we do? First, it's about building a sense of purpose into our daily college life. This isn't just about grades and degrees; it's about connecting with others, engaging in activities that give back to the community, and finding personal meaning in our studies and extracurriculars.
Consider joining mentorship programs or clubs that align with your interests. These can provide a sense of belonging and help you navigate through the pressures of college life. Also, look for courses or projects that tackle real-world problems. This kind of engagement can make learning more relevant and fulfilling, giving a sense of direction to our academic pursuits.
It's also important to embrace a broader definition of success. College isn't just a race for grades or a prestigious job; it's a time for personal growth and exploration. Celebrate your unique achievements, whether it's acing a difficult class, contributing to a group project, or simply growing as a person.
Lastly, remember, mental wellness is a journey, not a destination. It's about continuously finding ways to connect our academic life with our inner passions and values. By doing so, we can navigate college not just as a phase of education, but as an enriching chapter in our life story, laying a foundation for lasting mental well-being.
